Best Women’s Competition Shotgun? Syren Grayce Review

Feb 12, 2026
Syren Grayce Sporting

Built for sporting clays competition, the Syren Grayce is a high-performance over/under designed specifically for female shooters who value proper fit, long-term durability, and confidence on the course. We teamed up with Lindey Martin from Orion Outdoors Co. for an in-depth, hands-on look at what the Grayce really delivers.

Ergonomics

Right away, it’s obvious the Syren Grayce is not built for me—and that’s exactly the point. When I mounted the gun, it felt short and didn’t fit my frame particularly well, which immediately reinforced that this shotgun is truly designed around female ergonomics.

The shorter length of pull, smaller grip radius, and Monte Carlo stock are all tailored to accommodate the higher cheekbones and different hand geometry common among women shooters. Lindsey Martin, who joined me for this review and shoots Syren competitively, pointed out how important that adjustable comb is—especially for women who may not know right away whether a gun fits them properly. Having that adjustability standard is a big deal.

In the hands, the gun feels balanced and controlled. Lindsey noted that she actually prefers a slightly heavier competition gun because it helps slow her swing and stay connected to the target. The Grayce sits right in that sweet spot where the weight is noticeable but never cumbersome, and the balance is neutral and predictable.

Visually, the gun is unapologetically Syren. The purple accents aren’t traditional, but they’re intentional. It’s modern, distinctive, and clearly not trying to be another generic over/under. The checkering is well executed, the grip feels secure, and everything about the ergonomics supports long sessions on the sporting clays course.

Recoil and Reliability

Recoil management on the Grayce was excellent. The weight, balance, and smooth mechanical trigger all work together to keep the gun controllable and comfortable through repeated shots. Lindsey specifically noted how smooth the gun felt when she first shot it, and that smoothness carried through the entire shooting experience.

Reliability is where this shotgun really separates itself. The Grayce is built on the Invictus action system, which is often referred to as a “million-round gun.” That reputation comes from the fact that the primary wear components—such as the Invictus cams and locking block—are replaceable. Instead of wearing out the receiver over time, those components can be serviced, dramatically extending the life of the gun.

This is a shotgun built for competition volume, not occasional use.

Breakdown / Quality of Build

Taking the Grayce apart reveals the engineering that justifies its price point. The Invictus action is clean, precise, and designed around longevity. The replaceable wear components are a huge advantage for shooters who put serious rounds through their guns year after year.

Syren also made smart material choices. The titanium chokes weigh next to nothing, which allows for longer barrel options without throwing off the balance. The alloy base plate in the action helps reduce unnecessary weight while maintaining strength.

The wood quality is excellent, with clean checkering and a finish that feels appropriate for a competition gun in this class. Tolerances are tight, lockup is solid, and nothing feels sloppy or rushed. This is the kind of shotgun that’s meant to last not just your shooting career, but potentially be passed down to the next generation.

Shooting Experience

On the course, the Syren Grayce feels smooth, predictable, and confidence-inspiring. The balance encourages a controlled swing rather than a rushed one, and the gun stays connected through the shot. The mechanical trigger is crisp and consistent, which is exactly what you want in a competition environment.

The combination of weight distribution, barrel length options, and female-specific stock dimensions makes this gun particularly effective for sporting clays shooters who want consistency over long days of shooting. It’s not a field gun, and it’s not trying to be. This is a purpose-built sporting shotgun, and it performs like one.

Final Thoughts

What I really like about the Syren Grayce is that it doesn’t pretend to be a “one size fits all” shotgun. It’s intentionally designed for women who compete, and it shows in the fit, balance, and overall shooting experience. The Invictus action, titanium chokes, and standard adjustable comb make it a serious long-term investment for competitive shooters.

If you’re looking for a female-specific competition shotgun that prioritizes fit, longevity, and performance, this one deserves a hard look.
