Best Sporting Clay Over/Under Shotguns of 2025

Best Sporting Clays Over Under Shotguns

Sporting clays is one of the most demanding shotgun sports there is — and the right over/under can make all the difference. These are the sporting clays over/under shotguns that stood out the most in real-world shooting and in our in-depth reviews.

Each year, we look back at the shotguns we’ve reviewed and spent real time shooting to build our Best of lists. This one is all about sporting clays over/under shotguns — and every shotgun mentioned here is one we’ve personally been hands-on with and fully reviewed.

We’re breaking this list into the same clear categories we use across the series:

  • Best on a Budget
  • Best Value
  • Best Overall (Reasonable, Mid, and Elite ranges)

Sporting clays shotguns span a huge price range, so instead of forcing a single “best overall,” we’ve grouped them by price tiers to make the list more useful.

Let’s jump in.

If you have experience with any of these shotguns, please share your thoughts in the TFL COMMUNITY!

BEST ON A BUDGET

Dedicated sporting clays over/unders under $1,500 are rare — but there is one that clearly stands out.

🏆 Winner: Weatherby Orion Sporting — MSRP $1,399

The Orion Sporting Adjustable is purpose-built for sporting clays and offers features you don’t often see at this price point, including an adjustable comb. Ergonomics are solid, and while it’s a bit chunky and has slightly heavier recoil than the other guns on this list, it’s a very respectable entry point into a dedicated sporting clays over/under.

If you’re trying to stay under $1,500 and want a true sporting clays configuration, this is the clear choice.

BEST VALUE

When it comes to price-to-quality mix, this category had a clear winner — with a strong runner-up right behind it.

🏆 Winner: Beretta 688 — MSRP $3,599

The Beretta 688, however, really surprised us. On paper, the laminate stock might not be everyone’s favorite — but once you get hands-on and start shooting it, the performance speaks for itself. With excellent balance and shootability, the 688 feels much closer to higher-priced Berettas like the 694 than its MSRP suggests.

Love the laminate stock or hate it, the Beretta 688 is a fantastic value in the sporting clays world.

🥈 Runner-Up: Rizzini Sporter X — MSRP $3,750

The Rizzini Sporter X is a very solid option for shooters who want a dependable sporting clays gun without jumping into the $5,000–$8,000 range. It’s a simpler version compared to higher-end Rizzini's, but still well-built and a great shooting shotgun. We actually reviewed the Rizinni BR110 Sporter IPS wich has a few more bells and whistles like an adjustable rib. These added features bump it into a higher price point, but if we were looking for value, the Sporter X would be our pick.

BEST OVERALL (REASONABLE)

This is where competition really heats up. There are several excellent options here, but one clearly rose to the top.

🏆 Winner: Caesar Guerini Summit Sporting — MSRP $5,615

The Caesar Guerini Summit Sporting, though, is on another level. From the moment we shot it, everything just clicked — balance, recoil management, target acquisition, and overall feel. It’s one of those guns that sticks with you long after you put it down, and that’s why it takes the top spot in this category.

🥈 Runner-Up: Beretta 694 — $5,499–$6,869 for pro
🥈 Runner-Up: Fabarm Elos N2 RS Sporting — $4,185

The Beretta 694 is a proven performer with great action and reliability. We have shot this gun a lot through our review and at several sporting clays shoots. While the pro version looks cool and offers a ton of adjustabily, we would chose the regular 694 with an adjustable comb.

The Fabarm Elos N2 RS Sporting is a well-built, thoughtfully designed shotgun with some standout features — including adjustable fore-end tension that lets you fine-tune how the gun opens. At its price point, it delivers excellent quality.

BEST OVERALL (MID)

🏆 Winner: Zoli Z Sport — MSRP $10,000

At the mid-tier level, the Zoli Z Sport stands out as a finely crafted Italian shotgun built for serious sporting clays shooters. Recoil management is excellent, fit and finish are impressive, and it’s easy to see why so many competitive shooters gravitate toward Zoli.

Is it twice as good as a $5,000 shotgun? That’s a personal call — but the quality and performance are undeniable.

BEST OVERALL (ELITE)

🏆 Winner: Perazzi High Tech — MSRP $17,000–$18,000

At the elite level, we’re talking about fully customizable, no-compromise competition shotguns — and the Perazzi High Tech represents exactly that.

Everything about this gun is built to the highest standard, from materials to craftsmanship. Because Perazzis are custom-made, fit is critical, and the one we reviewed wasn’t built specifically for us—but even so, the quality was unmistakable.

There aren’t many shotguns at this level we’ve reviewed yet, and we’d love to get hands-on with more. If you have a favorite elite-level sporting clays gun, let us know in the video's comments.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Here’s how the list shakes out:

🏆 Best on a Budget: Weatherby Orion Sporting Adjustable — $1,399
🏆 Best Value: Beretta 688 — $3,599
🏆 Best Overall (Reasonable): Caesar Guerini Summit Sporting — $5,615
🏆 Best Overall (Mid): Zoli Z Sport — $10,000
🏆 Best Overall (Elite): Perazzi High Tech — $17,000–$18,000

From entry-level sporting clays shooters to seasoned competitors, this list covers the whole spectrum. The Summit Sporting continues to haunt my thoughts for how well it shoots, and the Beretta 688 proves you don’t need to spend $5,000+ to get serious performance.
